Why We Are Just Like Girls

This is the show of our generation. If you haven’t watched it, do. If you don’t like it, go live under a rock. I will even go as far to say here is no more real depiction of power and pain than that of Girls. It takes a long time for me just jump on a TV show. The battle plays out in my mind of its necessity, and the time it will take to get involved. This is one I regret not starting earlier. One I truly believe could change the face of young society. And if that isn’t enough preaching, here are some wonderful reasons on why we are just like Girls:
1. We all want to be Hannah
Face it, we all want to be Hannah. We all want the chance to chase our dreams on our parents dime. And even more, we want the chance to chase it after their dime runs out. We want to be witty and not roll into a fit of hysteria when things don’t go our way. We are all on the verge of an insane mental break down and most of us hope that it ends with the man of our dreams playing a real life version of frogger down the streets of New York to save our dark sole. We all think we can change the world, and if we try just a little bit harder maybe we can.

2. We all want to live in New York. And more so Brooklyn
Not much needs to be said about this. It is a true statement and has been for quite some time. We all want to go to the city of lights and make something of ourselves in the most common way possible.
3. We all want a best friend like Marnie
Girls are mean, and most of our lives are spent trying to find that one person who doesn't make us feel like rat poop. It is hardly ever a guy... no no, it is always a girl. They are our best friends, and they take on the world with us. Everyone wants a friend who can move out on a whim when y'all are going through hard times and still be your best friend. We want that person who knows us inside and out. Who writes about us in their diary. And takes showers with us to save water in our broken down apartment with overpriced rent. But more importantly we want that friend who actually sharing scrub time simply because they are that friend.
4. We all want to know Jessa
There is no cooler person than that girl who can do whatever she wants whenever she wants. Jessa is the free spirit everyone wished they knew. You are too scared yourself to be her, so knowing her is the next best thing. She can have a smishsmortion without a care, she can hop trains to random towns, and she can get married and divorced in a style all her own. This is the girl you have a lady crush on, and the girl you really wish you had the guts to talk to.

5. We all want to be Girls because we are Girls
This show is a depiction of us all. The uptight Marnie, the sweet and innocent Shoshanna, the carefree Jessa, and the Hannah. We are all fighting for something. We are all losing our jobs and finding news one. We will all hit bumps in the road, miss out on great opportunity, work too hard for too little, and fall in and out of love. We are all pushing for the same thing. Happiness. None of us know what we are doing, and as 20-somethings we just keep hoping our parents don’t pull the plug.

The more I watched this show the greater my love for Hannah became. The more I wanted to pack my bags and move to New York where things happen. Just like her I don’t know how to handle a relationship. Just like her I can’t really find my way without the support of my parents. Just like her I wish someone would read my work and have their lives be changed. That everyone and their moms would share this post and someone somewhere who won’t answer my book idea emails will change their mind.

Girls has showed the world that things will be okay in a completely normal way. You won't wake up one day with money knocking on your door. But, when you lose your way something else will come along. Rent will get paid and you will even be able to eat lunch. We are all hoping for our life changing experience, I think Girls is showing us not to give up.
